# Criteria for Registering .gov.ng Domain

> Registering .gov.ng domain name with Verpex

.gov.ng is a subset of the .ng domain name system and is restricted to the various tiers of government in Nigeria(The Federal government, State government, Federal Ministries, Departments, Parastatals and Institutions,) on request.

Requirements for registering a .gov.ng domain name

Before a .gov.ng domain can be approved, some requirements must be met and some guidelines followed.

State government parastattal must register the official abbreviation of the state to register a third-level domain within .gov.ng(Ikeja.lg.gov.ng)

Cities and townships are encouraged to register for a fourth-level domain under a state's third-level domain (e.g. .kd.gov.ng for Kaduna state). The domain name abbreviation must be derived from the name of the entity, after the city or township name, and separated by a hyphen.

**How to register .gov.ng domain name**

To register a .gov.ng, send us an email with

A scanned letter on the letterhead of the ministry or state government parastatal that plans to register the domain. The letter must contain the domain name to be registered and the name of the person authorized to register the domain. This authorized person must be working at the ministry and the following details should be stated in the letter

Once the letter has been emailed to [support@verpex.com](mailto:support@verpex.com) as an attachment. The domain application with the entity applying for the domain. will be vetted by NITDA directly. It generally takes a week or more as the request for the domain must be confirmed and verified before it can be registered
